＜英文タイプの常識＞

添削をさせて頂いてて気づくのが、英文タイプの常識的事項が案外守られていない（＾＾；
という事なので、カバーレターの話しの前に少し書きます。。。

１	コンマの後はスペース１つ、ピリオドの後はスペース２つです。
２	Reference番号やカッコが文末につく場合などはコンマの前にいれます。　 　　　　　　　　ex)　The integrity is confirmed in water under a negative pressure ^3).
３	数字は文頭はスペルアウトする。文中は数字のままでいいです。
４	セミコロン： ピリオドよりは軽く、コンマよりは重い句読点。後ろのセンテンスで前のセンテンスの説明・比較などをするもので、前後の文章は密接な論理関係を持つことになります。 コロン： ピリオドとセミコロンの中間の強さを持つ終止符。コロンの後ろのセンテンスは前のセンテンスのより詳しい情報を述べるのに用います。

　注）もちろん、投稿する雑誌が独自の方法を指示している場合はそれに従って下さい！


＜カバーレター（英文レター）のフォーマット＞

英文レターには定められたフォーマットがあります。。。が、これも案外ご存知でない方が
いらっしゃいます。（＾＾；
フォーマットにはBlock style, Modified block style　などがありますが、ここでは一般的なBlock styleを紹介します。

Enc. ＜同封物（論文や写真など）がありますよというnotationです＞

なお、Recipient　の名前がはっきりしない場合は、「Dear Sir or Madam」が現在最も
一般的です。「To whom concerned」という言い方は今やすっかりスタレています(^^;。



＜カバーレター例文集＞

いちいちカバーレターの文章を考えるのが面倒だと言う方々用に、「みさっち特製カバーレター虎の巻」な〜んぞ載せておきましょうか。。＼（＾０＾）／。。

＊	Enclosed please find our manuscript entitled "（論文タイトル）".
＊	We are very grateful to submit our manuscript entitled "（論文タイトル）" to your journal.
＊	I declare that I participated in the design, execution, and analysis of the paper by （first authorの名前） and colleagues entitled "（論文タイトル）", and that I have seen and approved the final version.
＊	I declare that I have no conflict of interest in connection with this paper, other than any noted in the covering letter to the editor.
＊	In consideration of （雑誌名）reviewing and editing our submission, the authors undersigned hereby transfer, assign, or otherwise convey all copyright ownership to （雑誌名）, and represent that they own all the right in the material submitted.
＊	The authors represent that the article is original, that it is not under consideration by other journals, and that this material has not been previously published.
＊	If you have any questions about our manuscript, please contact （First authorの名前） at the address shown in the letter head.
＊	Thank you very much for your consideration.
＊	We are looking forward to your reply, hopefully saying this article is accepted in your journal.

もちろん、これら文例に付け加え、自分の論文のどういうところがすんばらしいのかというのを２、３行でまとめ、入れた方が好ましいと思われます。
欧米人の自身の売り込みはそれはも〜大変なものです。日本人は謙虚になりがちですが、欧米の雑誌に出すのですから、負けてる訳にはいきませんよね！（＾＾）

なお、これらのセンテンスはひとつずつが孤立した例文です。（＾＾；これを全部つなげれば、カバーレターの出来上がり！と言ったものではありませんので。。。。（たまにカバーレターをCheckさせて頂いていると無理して全ての上記例文を入れ込んで書かれている方がちらほらいらっしゃるので、念のため。。。(^^;)
